Even though Day 73 marked the end of the fantastic overland that was The Absolute Safari, I still had 4 more glorious days to explore what Cape Town had to offer! Each day I said goodbye to some of the lifelong friends made, but counted down the days until I would be at home for Christmas with my family.
Ah Namibia... what can I say? This turned out to be my absolute favourite country of the Absolute Safari! We had so much diversity over a short period of time... from Safari'ing in the hot as balls desert that was Etosha National Park, to the cool ocean breeze of Swakopmund, climbing sand dunes, dune-buggying and skydiving. Namibia, you stole my heart.
Week 9 and heading into the end of what has been a crazy overland adventure through Africa. Traveling from Etosha National Park game driving in ridiculously dry heat, to weird and wonderful canyons and mountains to adrenaline-junky activities in a chilly beachside town, Namibia quickly became my favourite country for its boundless diversity.
Week 8 of the Absolute Safari was a wide array of incredible experiences at Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe as well as the Okavango Delta, Botswana. These parts of the world are undeniably beautiful and I encourage you to make both of these places a top priority on your bucket list.
Have you ever imagined walking up to a rhinoceros, no fences, no boundaries, and just watching them? Luckily during my overland adventure in Zimbabwe, I had the incredible opportunity to do just that! Read on for more details on how and why...
3 border crossings and 3 countries in 7 days. Sometimes travel can be a whirlwind and you don't get to see as much of a destination as you'd like to, but it still leaves a lasting impression on you. A week ranging from chilling by the banks of Lake Malawi to hanging out on a houseboat in Lake Kariba, surrounded by hippos, crocs and elephants.
If you haven't heard of Zanzibar by now you should've! An incredibly diverse culture and history meets a beautiful island in the blue waters of the Indian Ocean. There is so much to see and do that I could easily spend weeks here exploring the island. Next time you're thinking about an island getaway to the South Pacific or the Caribbean, do a bit of research into Zanzibar.
Tanzania is one of those incredibly diverse countries, where it's hard to believe that one day you could be viewing untamed wildlife in the Serengeti, and yet 3 days later be floating in the beautiful blue waters of the Indian Ocean, off the coast of the cultural wonderland that is Zanzibar
3 different countries in one week. From trekking mountain gorillas in Uganda, to appreciating the history of Rwanda and meeting locals in Tanzania.
Uganda: Such a diverse country, one day I was rafting, getting drunk and showering on/by the River Nile, the next I'm trekking Chimpanzees in the forest, cruising alongside hippos and sleeping next to elephants...
Week 1 of 10 on The Absolute Tour from Nairobi to Cape Town. From kissing giraffes, to breathing air in the same vicinity as 3 white rhinos, singing with Maasai tribeswomen, cycling through a zebra crossing and witnessing the most incredible sunrise and views that Kenya has to offer.
Ditching another Sunday at church, I ventured further through Kenya on my first ever hike. I have officially been converted to a hiker, and will attend religiously on Sundays when I get home!
After dreaming of a trip to Africa for 5 years, I finally made it happen! I was extremely nervous to find myself in Kenya on my own, but nerves quickly turned to excitement... read about my experience of my first few days volunteering at a Special Needs program in Kenya!
